When you think of Florida, particularly South Florida, you normally think of busy, beautiful, and sandy beaches. There is a well-kept secret in South Florida and that secret is called Blowing Rocks Preserve!
The preserve is dedicated to preserving the land and the beach back to it’s original condition a century ago. Blowing Rocks is one of the most unique Floridian beaches you will encounter. We decided to go spend the day there and wanted to share our experience.
When we entered, we were immediately immersed into lush, tropical greenery. In the middle of all the greenery was a path we followed; this path forked off to other trails and the beach. Once on the beach, we walked to the right where we found massive, beautiful rock structures and caves. The tide was low, so we could easily walk along the shore to explore the magnificent rocks! It reminded me of a beach in Portugal, it did not feel like we were in Florida!
We decided to walk along the shoreline to the end of the rock formations, it’s about a 10 minute walk one way. I felt like a little kid again! We then decided to relax and take a nap in one of the little caves. We could not receive cell service in the cave, so it was nice to be disconnected for a little while.
There weren’t many people around, so it felt somewhat private and that was on a Sunday. Beaches are typically more busy on the weekend due to people being off work. If you need a relaxation day, an adventure for the kids, or awesome photo ops, you definitely need to check out this beach! I highly suggest bringing plenty of water because it was very hot out!
Located in Hobe Sound, the preserve was a 30 minute drive north of West Palm Beach. Believe me when I say it is worth the drive! There are two parking lots where you can park and the admission to get in is $2 per person. It’s open every day from 9 am-4:30 pm. The address is 575 S Beach Rd, Hobe Sound, FL 33455.
